Annecy Festival 2026: Luxembourg Confirms Its Strength in Animation and Immersive Works
With the Cannes Film Festival barely over, Luxembourg’s film industry is moving straight on to another major international stage. From 21 to 27 June 2026, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival will showcase the country’s renowned expertise, confirming the Grand Duchy’s position as a key player in animation and immersive experiences.
Several Luxembourgish productions and co-productions feature in the official selection, spread across the competition, immersive sections and special programmes.
Official Competition
THE SUNRISE FILE (Le Dossier de l’aube) directed by Rupert Wyatt & Emilie Phuong. Coproduction between Luxembourg (Melusine Productions) and France
Synopsis: The Sunrise File is a geopolitical thriller in which a Mossad agent seeks to determine the fate of former Nazi executioners. The film takes us on a breathtaking tale of espionage from the end of the Second World War to the trial of Klaus Barbie, between Paris, Berlin, La Paz and Tel Aviv.
Immersive Competition
A Long Goodbye directed by Kate Voet & Victor Maes.
Coproduction between Luxembourg (Tarantula Luxembourg), Belgium and the Netherlands
Synopsis: In this animated, interactive VR experience, we walk in Ida’s shoes, a 72-year-old pianist living with dementia. A Long Goodbye is a poetic experience about the long goodbye of two lovers who shared a life together.
THE DOLLHOUSE by Charlotte Bruneau & Dominic Desjardins Luxembourgish production (Wild Fang Films) with Canada
Synopsis: The Dollhouse is an unfolding paper world where 9-year-old Juniper untangles feelings
of guilt around how her family treated Magnolia, a woman who came from far to work as
a cleaner in their house. This animated interactive VR tale explores how power dynamics
are born within the intimacy of our homes.
While reenacting memories with her dolls,
Juniper grows ashamed of her actions and finds the courage to disagree with her
parents and follow her heart. Will you help her ask for forgiveness?
Annecy Presents
Outside the official competition, Luxembourg will also be represented in the noncompetitive
international showcase “Annecy Presents”:
DUDLEY AND THE INVASION OF THE SPACE SLUGS , directed by Cherifa Bakhti. Luxembourg production (Fabrique d’Images), with Belgium and France
JULIÁN , directed by Louise Bagnall. Co-production between Luxembourg (Melusine Productions), Ireland, Canada and Denmark
Special Events
NEW YORK, MIRIAM AND I , directed by Léahn Vivier-Chapas & Rémy Schaepman
Coproduction between Luxembourg (Melusine Productions) and France
The film will have its premiere as part of a special screening at Pathé, and it is also competing for the audience award.
Work in Progress (out of competition)
The Work in Progress sessions offer an immersion into projects currently in production, with the creative teams present. Two Luxembourgish projects will be presented this year:
THE WOLF, directed by Benjamin Massoubre & Fursy Teyssier
A co-production between Luxembourg (Bidibul Productions) and France
Séraphine , directed by Sarah Van den Boom
A co-production between Luxembourg (Doghouse Films), France and Switzerland
Off-Limits
The experimental short film XYZ by Portuguese director Alexandre Alagôa, based in Luxembourg, has been selected in the official “Off-Limits” section.
In addition to the works selected for the festival, Luxembourg is strengthening its presence at MIFA, the world’s largest animation market. Under the umbrella of the Film Fund Luxembourg, numerous Luxembourgish animation companies, studios and professionals will come together to facilitate their search for partners, broadcasters, future projects and even interns. A pitch session entitled "Animated Luxembourg – Coming Soon" will also offer a unique showcase for creations from the Grand Duchy, allowing a wide variety of projects from Luxembourg studios to be presented to accredited international professionals.
Luxembourgish students will also benefit from visibility at the market thanks to the stand provided by the Film Fund for BTS and Bachelor’s in Animation accredited professionals, as well as through recruitment meetings organised with the country’s studios.
Following its presence at Cannes, this strong visibility at Annecy confirms Luxembourg’s position as a key creative player in animation and new narrative forms.
