Berlinale
Every year, 20,000 professionals from 120 countries, including 4,200 journalists, travel to Berlin to attend the event. The Berlinale is the most popular film festival in the world, with some 332,000 tickets sold and a total attendance of 488,000.
The Berlinale (Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin, literally the Berlin International Film Festival) is a competitive film festival founded in 1951. It is held every year at the beginning of February in Berlin. A major film market, retrospectives and parallel sections complete the event, which is supported by the international feature film competition. The best film in the international competition is awarded the Golden Bear (Goldener Berliner Bär). The Bears are awarded by a jury made up of film professionals and personalities from the world of arts and culture.
The European film market is one of the three main meeting points for the international film and media industry. Its close link with the Berlinale, the public film festival, and its location at the heart of Berlin's creative scene are defining features of the Berlinale Film Market. However, the EFM is more than just an agile market for the trade in film and audiovisual content - it has also positioned itself as a platform for innovation and change.
For eight days, some 10,000 representatives of the international film and media industries - mainly producers, buyers and sales agents, distributors and financiers - come together to network, exchange information and do business. As the first major film market of the year, the EFM is in a strong position to serve as a compass, barometer and speedometer for the new film year: new productions and developments, future-proof business models, contacts and contracts.
Every year, the Film Fund Luxembourg is represented at the Berlinale with a delegation of Luxembourg producers and talent. Together with the Luxembourg Embassy in Berlin, it organises its traditional Luxembourg reception, bringing together Luxembourg professionals from the audiovisual production sector and international partners.
In 2021, the Luxembourg co-production "Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn" won the Golden Bear for Best Film!
