Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis
The Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis is a joint initiative of the public authorities and organisations representing Luxembourg film professionals. Its aim is to reward the best contributions to Luxembourg cinema, in order to showcase quality works, encourage film creation, promote the development of the film industry in Luxembourg and draw the public's attention to Luxembourg productions.
The Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis is organised every two years jointly by the national support fund for audiovisual production (Film Fund Luxembourg) and the Luxembourg Film Academy (d'Filmakademie). The latter was created in 2012 on the initiative of the associations of film technicians (ALTA), directors and scriptwriters (LARS), actors (ACTORS.LU) and producers (ULPA).
The Fonds national de soutien à la production audiovisuelle (Film Fund Luxembourg) is responsible for organising the awards ceremony, while the Academy is in charge of organising the voting, in which all Academy members, mainly from the audiovisual sector, can take part. This configuration has existed since 2014; previously, the event was organised entirely by the national support fund for audiovisual production (Film Fund Luxembourg) under the aegis of a specialist jury.
Since 2003, the ceremonies have been held successively at the Rotondes de Bonnevoie (2003), the former Brasserie Mousel in Luxembourg-Clausen (2005), the Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette (2007), LuxExpo in Luxembourg-Kirchberg (2009), Chapito by Casino 2000 in Mondorf-les-Bains (2012) and GoodBye Monopol in Luxembourg (2014). Since 2016, the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg has become the privileged setting for the event, hosting the 2016, 2018, 2021 and 2023 editions. The 11ᵉ edition will take place there again.
Since its first edition in 2003, the official Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis statuette has been designed and produced by Luxembourg artist Patricia Lippert.
