2 Luxembourg co-productions in competition at the 80th Venice Film Festival
The feature film HOLLY directed by Belgian Fien Troch has been selected for the 80e Venice International Film Festival for its world premiere in the Official Competition.
HOLLY is a co-production between Luxembourg (Tarantula Luxembourg - Donato Rotunno), Belgium, the Netherlands and France. The Luxembourg technical team includes Philippe Lussagnet (lighting), Sophie Van Den Keybus (costumes) and Véronique Dubray (make-up). The special effects (VFX) were produced in Luxembourg by Espera Productions (Raoul Nadalet).
The film in virtual reality FLOATING WITH SPIRITS by Juanita Onzaga is part of the Official Competition of the Venice Immersive. This virtual reality experience is a co-production between Luxembourg (Tarantula Luxembourg - Donato Rotunno), Belgium and the Netherlands (Benelux).
In her work, the Colombian director mixes elements of fiction with reality, creating hybrid works. She emphasises the importance of memory, manipulates concepts such as death and imagination, and creates poetic tales that reflect different perceptions of reality against a strong political backdrop. In this way, she has developed a singular universe in which the spectator wanders through reveries, jungles and cities, accompanied by spirits. The result is an intimate quest for mysticism set against a realistic backdrop, where the invisible complements and answers the questions raised by the real world. His work explores the boundaries between cinema, poetry, mysticism, futurism, dance and technology in projects developed in Colombia, Europe and Mexico.
The Venice Mostra or Venice International Film Festival (in Italian: Mostra internazionale d'arte cinematografica di Venezia) will be held from 30 August to 9 September 2023 in the historic Palazzo del Cinema, on the Lungomare Marconi, on Venice Lido, and will be directed by Alberto Barbera. The Mostra is not just for professionals and journalists, and screenings are open to the public. The winners of this 80th edition will be announced on 9 September!
