The Trophées Francophones du Cinémaorganised by the Association des Trophées Francophones du Cinéma (ATFCiné), are designed to showcase the cinematographic productions of the countries of the French-speaking world, with an annual event ending with a prize-giving ceremony to honour the most outstanding filmmakers, actors, technicians and films of the past year.

The Trophées were born in the early 2010s out of the desire of a group of heads of festivals, academies and cultural institutions in France, Canada, Belgium and Luxembourg to "create" a constellation of French-speaking film-makers. Since the very first edition in Dakar in 2013, the Trophées have been committed to encouraging and promoting the diversity and freedom of film-making in French-speaking territories.

With its own resources and the support of a number of public institutions and film centres in French-speaking countries (including the Film Fund Luxembourg), the Trophées aim to capture the attention of audiences by adopting a deliberately event-based policy, which involves programming free screenings in cinemas or in the open air, meetings with film professionals in the form of masterclasses or workshops, and discovery sessions dedicated to school and university audiences.

The year of French-language cinema culminates in a gala evening where nine prizes are awarded at a ceremony that is both festive and popular. Widely covered by the media via the national channels of the host countries and almost entirely on TV5Monde, this annual showcase for the diversity of French-speaking cinema is attended by established international celebrities and up-and-coming young talents, all from the four corners of the French-speaking world.

After Dakar, Paris, Abidjan, Beirut, Yaoundé and Saint-Louis (Senegal), the Trophées Francophones du Cinéma moved to Kigali in 2020 for two editions following an invitation from the Rwandan authorities in charge of culture and ATFCiné's desire to enter into more structural and sustainable partnerships.

Zero Impunity directed by Nicolas Blies and Stéphane Hueber-Blies and co-produced by a_BAHNa hard-hitting film denouncing sexual violence committed in wartime, made from a mix of animation and live action, has been shortlisted in the official competition for the "Trophée francophone du long-métrage documentaire 2021". The awards ceremony will take place in Kigali on 4 December!
