A strong Luxembourg presence at the Berlinale and the 2026 European Film Market
At the 76ᵉ Berlinale and the European Film Market (EFM), the Film Fund Luxembourg took advantage of its presence to consolidate its international partnerships, support new forms of creation and promote Luxembourg know-how. This year's event was marked by the selection of three Luxembourg co-productions, underlining the country's dynamism on the international film scene.
Major artistic recognition for Luxembourg
The three works co-produced by AMOUR FOU Luxembourg, by Koxi (LIEBHABERINNEN), Ulrike Ottinger (DIE BLUTGRÄFIN) and Mahnaz Mohammadi (ROYA), three directors with a singular and resolutely assertive vision, were presented in the Forum, Berlinale Special Gala and Panorama sections. They illustrate the diversity, creativity and boldness of the talent supported by the Film Fund.
Several Luxembourg projects were also represented in various sections of the EFM market. This presence in Berlin once again testifies to the international recognition of Luxembourg's film sector, as Guy Daleiden, Director of the National Fund to Support Audiovisual Production, points out:
«The exchanges at the European Film Market, a unique B2B space where decisive collaborations are forged for the future of our sector, as well as the visibility offered by the selection of three Luxembourg co-productions, reinforce Luxembourg's position as a reliable partner fully committed to European creative dynamics. These moments are essential for supporting our talent and developing new opportunities for cooperation.»
An active presence to support animation, immersive cinema and European dynamics on the fringes of the festival
At the European Film Market, the Film Fund took part in two major initiatives: the first edition of the EFM Animation Days, where two Luxembourg co-productions - GRANNY IS A TREE (Doghouse Films) and RED ZONE (a_BAHN) - were presented, and the launch of the EFM Beyond XR programme, focused on networking and exchanges around immersive formats. A first informal assessment of this programme will be shared at Immersive Days 2026 in Luxembourg. At the same time, Luxembourg also made its presence felt at the Berlinale Co-Production Market with the selection of THE LAST FRONTIER by Argentinian filmmaker Rodrigo Moreno, co-produced by Les Films Fauves.
The Fund also took part in a number of working meetings, in particular with its partners from the French- and German-speaking public funds and the members of EFAD (European Association of Public Funding for Audiovisual Production), on current trends and challenges such as the revision of the AVMS Directive, the development of the AgoraEU programme and the issues involved in integrating AI into the audiovisual sector.
The activities of the European Solidarity Fund for Ukrainian Films (ESFUF) were an important part of the presence in Berlin. The Film Fund held discussions with Ukrainian professional and institutional representatives, including the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Culture for European Integration, Natalia Movshovych, and the Director of the Ukrainian State Film Agency, Andrii Osipov, to assess the needs of the sector and support projects currently in production. The ESFUF has been officially renewed for 2026, confirming Europe's continued commitment to Ukrainian creation.
Strong political support for the Luxembourg sector
The Film Fund was honoured to be accompanied to Berlin by Prime Minister Luc Frieden and the
Minister for Culture Eric Thill, an exceptional presence that raised the profile of the
Luxembourg delegation. Their commitment to the audiovisual sector gave special significance to the professional meetings held on site. The two ministers took part in several discussions with representatives of the sector and attended the traditional reception at the Luxembourg Embassy, an annual gathering of professionals, institutional partners and personalities from the cultural world.
