The Breadwinner by Nora Twomey, co-produced by Melusine Productions wins the Annie Award for the best independent animated film at the 45e edition of the "Oscars of animation.
The film tells the story of a young Afghan girl who disguises herself as a boy to support her family, and already has an impressive number of nominations to its name. The animated feature is also one of the films nominated at the Academy Awards whose precious statuettes will be presented on 4 March.
Audiences in Luxembourg will have the opportunity to discover The Breadwinner on 22 February to open the Luxembourg City Film Festival.

Wedding by Stephan Streker, co-produced by Tarantula Luxembourg won the Magritte for Best Supporting Actress (Aurora Marion) and the Magritte for Best Costumes (designed by Belgian-Luxembourgish Sophie Van Den Keybus) at the 8e Belgian Film Awards which took place on Saturday evening in Brussels.
The film competed in eight categories and has also been nominated at the César in the "Best Foreign Film" category, the results of which will be announced on 2 March. Weddingwhich tackles the painful subject of arranged marriages, has already won a large number of awards and been selected/nominated at international festivals.
