The animated feature "Song of the Sea" directed by Tomm Moore and co-produced by Melusine Productions (Stéphan Roelants) at Studio 352 in Contern has been shortlisted for the Oscar for Best Animated Film by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The film is a co-production between Cartoon Saloon (Ireland), Melusine Productions and Studio 352 (Luxembourg), Big Farm (Belgium), Noerlum Studios (Denmark) and Super Productions (France), with funding from the Film Fund Luxembourg and the Irish Film Board.
The 87th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 22 February 2015 in Los Angeles.
After the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 2014 for "Mr Hublot" (Zeilt productions) and the Oscar nomination for "Ernest et Célestine", this is the second nomination for Stephan Roelants' Luxembourg company Melusine Productions.
This appointment is further proof of the excellence of Luxembourg's audiovisual production sector, and in this case of its animation.
She also highlights the good relations that the Grand Duchy maintains with Ireland in the field of European co-production. Since the co-production agreement between our two countries was signed in 2011, no fewer than 7 feature films have been made.
The film has already received seven nominations at the 42nd Annie Awards, the animated film equivalent of the Oscars. Generally speaking, these nominations give an idea of which films could be Oscar contenders. The film was nominated in the Best Animated Feature category as well as for Character Design, Direction, Music, Best Set Design, Screenplay and Editing. The results will be announced on 31 January 2015.
