On Saturday 16 November 2019, composers Max Scheer and Claude Pauly were awarded the prize for the best young composer under 30 (worth €750) and the prize for the best composition (worth €2,000) respectively.

The Film Fund Luxembourg and the Fédération luxembourgeoise des auteurs-compositeurs (FLAC) have organised, as part of the "music and cinema"of the 16e edition of Francophone Coproduction Meetingsthe first edition of a film music composition competition. The aim of the competition was to create synergies between the Luxembourg music and audiovisual sectors and to provide a platform for experimentation for emerging and established composers. The competition was open to all natural persons of Luxembourg nationality or resident in the Grand Duchy or having their principal activity in the Grand Duchy.

Guy Daleiden, Director of the Film Fund: "This new initiative is fully in line with the Film Fund's desire to work hand in hand with other cultural players and institutions in the Grand Duchy, and to continue the collaboration with Sonic Visions that began three years ago. It also demonstrates the Fund's desire to support and promote the development of the Luxembourg audiovisual sector as a whole, and to encourage fruitful exchanges between the various departments within it.

Candidates had five months to set to music an extract from the Luxembourg film Eng nei Zäit by Christophe Wagner. The competition was a great success, with 23 composers responding to the call for entries.

Roby Steinmetzer, President of FLAC: "We are delighted with the great success of this new initiative, as the competition has shown that Luxembourg does indeed have a fine pool of young and established composition talent. We also hope that this competition will help to professionalise the composing profession and open the door to new collaborations between directors/producers and composers".

The jury was made up of : André Dziezuk, composer (Chairman), Pierre Funck, composer, Jeannot Sanavia, composer, Laura Schroeder, director and Carole Kremer from Film Fund Luxembourg.

The awards were donated by the Film Fund Luxembourg and presented as part of the Sonic Visions Festival.
