La 68e Berlinale, Europe's first major competitive film festival of the year, will attract the attention not only of professionals but also of the general public from 15 to 25 February 2018.

Two Luxembourg co-productions will represent the Grand Duchy:

- "  Black 47 "A feature film by the great Irish director Lance Daly, a co-production of Samsa Film selected as a world premiere out of competition.
The film is set in 1847 when Ireland is severely affected by the Great Famine. A hardened Irish ranger leaves his post in the British army to return to Ireland and visit his family. He discovers that his mother has starved to death and his brother has been killed by the British. He sets out on a bloody path of revenge. The only man who can stop him is his old friend from the British army.

 - "  Bad Banks "A television series of 6 x 52' episodes directed by Christian Schwochow, co-produced by Iris Productions selected as a world premiere in the ' sectionBerlinale Series'
The thriller stars Paula Beer, Tobias Moretti, Barry Atsma and Jean-Marc Barr alongside Luxembourgers Désirée Nosbusch, Marc Limpach, Germain Wagner, Steve Karier, Eugénie Anselin and Larisa Faber.
The series will be broadcast on the German channel ZDF from 3 March and on ARTE (France).

The Luxembourg actress, Jeanne Wernerknown for her performances in international films such as "  Colonia " ( Iris Productions) or "  Bye Bye Germany " ( Samsa Film), will be in the spotlight at the 'Berlinale Talents 2018'. This initiative offers 250 talented young people a week-long programme of coaching in all areas of cinema, providing a springboard into the main section of the festival and the international market.

A major film market is held alongside the festival. The volume of purchases negotiated here makes Berlin the second largest film market after Cannes.
