The 67th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is all about love.
"Amour Fou", directed by Jessica Hausner and co-produced by Amour Fou Luxembourg - Bady Minck and Alexander Dumreicher Ivanceanu - in competition in "Un certain regard".
At the Film Market, which attracts around 12,000 professionals each year, Luxembourg is present for the 12th time running with a pavilion in the International Village. This pavilion serves as a headquarters and workplace for Luxembourg filmmakers, producers and the press. The Fund has also awarded grants to directors and scriptwriters to enable them to take part in the film market. This year's recipients are Yann Tonnar and Jean-Louis Schuller.
This year, the Luxembourg Pavilion will welcome Maggy Nagel, Minister for Culture, who will take advantage of her visit to meet audiovisual professionals and attend the official screening of the film Amour fou. During her stay, the Minister will be the guest at a lunch hosted by Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education and Culture. The Minister's visit will conclude with the traditional Luxembourg evening.
The Luxembourg co-production Amour fou has been selected for the 2014 Cannes Film Festival in the official competition "Un certain regard". The film, directed by Austrian Jessica Hausner, was co-produced by Amour Fou Luxembourg (Bady Minck and Alexander Dumreicher-Ivanceanu).
The film was shot in Luxembourg, Germany and Austria in 2013. For the purposes of filming, the salons of a Brandenburg palace and other sets were reconstructed at Filmland's studios in Kehlen. Many local technicians were involved in the film, both during shooting and post-production, including Julie Braham (production manager), Helder da Silva (head of lighting for the film), Alessandro Palestro (set props), Nadia Masri (script supervisor) and Laurent Wallerang (head of key grip). The film was soundtracked by sound designer Nicolas Tran Trong, edited by Angelo dos Santos and mixed by Michel Schillings at Studios Philophon. Luxembourg actress Marie-Paule von Roesgen plays the role of Heinrich von Kleist's aunt.
Lastly, at the Short Film Corner (a meeting place for short film professionals), a number of Luxembourg directors and producers, including Laurent Witz, Michel Tereba and Olivier Koos, decided to present their films in order to set up meetings with festival directors, sales agents and international distributors, and to take decisive steps towards their future careers.
AMOUR FOU tells the story of the last months in the lives of Henriette Vogel and the German poet Heinrich von Kleist, who took their own lives together in Brandenburg in 1811. The film deals with the ambivalence and absurdity inherent in the two characters' decision to kill themselves together out of love for each other.
