EFA Awards 2015: 2 Luxembourg co-productions win prizes in Berlin
At the 28th European Film Awards ceremony in Berlin on Saturday evening, organised by the European Film Academy and broadcast live on ARTE cinéma, the Luxembourg co-production "Song of the sea" won the prize for best animated film.
Song of the sea was directed by Irishman Tomm Moore and co-produced by Luxembourg-based Melusine Productions (Stéphan Roelants) at Studio 352 in Contern, where some of the animation was done. The film is a co-production between various European countries (Ireland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark and France).
In addition to its Oscar nomination in 2014 for Best Animated Feature, Song of the sea totals 11 awards and 16 major nominations, including 11 at the Annie Awards and 1 at the César Awards. Once again, this award testifies to the excellence of Luxembourg's audiovisual production sector, and in this case its animation.
In his acceptance speech on stage last night, Tomm Moore thanked his co-producers and said: "This tale of Celtic legends is the fruit of a fabulous European co-production of which I am particularly proud".
The second prize went to the feature film The brand new testament by Jaco Van Dormael (co-produced by Juliette Films), which won the "Best European Production Designer" award. For further information, visit http://www.europeanfilmawards.eu/
