European Film Screenings 2015 in the United Arab Emirates

Representatives of the Fonds national de soutien à la production audiovisuelle Guy Daleiden and Françoise Lentz, as well as animated film producers Stéphan Roelants (Melusine Productions) and Laurent Witz (Zeilt productions) travelled to the United Arab Emirates to take part in the 2e European Film Screenings.
The festival, which runs from 21 to 31 October jointly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, is placed under the patronage of the Grand Duchy's embassy and organised in collaboration with the "Lëtzebuerger Filmfong", as part of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Luxembourg co-production "Song of the Sea" opened the festival, which also includes a special section dedicated to Luxembourg short films.
The delegation led by Nicole Bintner, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the Emirates, and accompanied by Marc Scheer from the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office, met His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, to discuss developments in audiovisual production in their respective countries. The Director of the Fund gave a presentation on the Luxembourg audiovisual production sector to the members of the BeNeLux Business Council, chaired by Vania Henry. Guy Daleiden was able to highlight the diversity of the national economy, particularly in the cultural and creative industries.
Throughout the trip, the delegation was able to learn about and familiarise itself with the Emirates' audiovisual sector, at a number of meetings with the heads of the Dubai and Abu Dhabi Film and Television Commissions, their counterparts from the Sanad Film Fund, the director of the Dubai Film Festival and national distributors, among others. A tour of Dubai Studio City's production facilities and film sets rounded off a highly instructive day.
