Fernand Fox leaves us: a legend of Luxembourg cinema and theatre passes away
We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Fernand Fox on 24 September at the age of 90.
Actor, singer and comedian, Fernand Fox has left his mark on his era through his passionate commitment and exceptional talent, touching several generations of audiences in the process. He began his career in 1956 on the stage of the Stater Casino, before going on to perform in numerous theatres throughout Luxembourg. His stage presence and artistic versatility quickly made him a key figure in Luxembourg's cultural landscape. As a committed artist, he has helped to promote the Luxembourg language and culture, taking part in projects that highlight the country's cultural heritage.
A pioneer of Luxembourg cinema, he also left his mark on his era by contributing to emblematic films directed by Andy Bausch such as A Wopbobaloobop a Lopbamboom, Three Shake-a-leg Steps to Heaven, The Unemployed Club, The Revenge or even Rusty Boysto name but a few. He has also taken part in a number of short films, including Pido Perdòn, Daisies or The Orchid as well as television productions, including E Fall fir sech, Déi Zwéi vum Bierg or E Liewe laang.
In 2004, Fernand Fox received a national honour for his pioneering role in the film industry. In 2010, his talent was recognised internationally when he received the Best Actor Award at the 61e Montecatini Festival in Tuscany, for his role in the short film Lingo Vino.
Fernand Fox was particularly appreciated for his participation in the popular television programme Hei EleiHis comic talent and ability to move people made him a much-loved figure among Luxembourg audiences. In 2013, Désirée Nosbusch devoted a documentary film to him entitled Fox successA tribute to the importance of his work and its impact on the country's culture, a testament to his unrivalled dedication and talent.
The Film Fund Luxembourg extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends. Fernand Fox leaves a huge void in Luxembourg's artistic landscape, but his rich and diverse legacy will live on through his works and the indelible memory he left in the hearts of those who knew and admired him.
