Annecy Animation Festival and Market: a positive assessment of Luxembourg's presence

Le International Animation Film Market (MIFA), which took place from 12 to 15 June as part of the International Animation Film Festival (11 to 16 June), is the world's leading annual event for professionals and enthusiasts of the moving image in all its forms, with over 10,000 accredited visitors from 87 countries.
The Film Fund was represented at the 18e This year, the Luxembourg Animation Federation (LAF) was present with a promotional stand hosting 16 Luxembourg animation companies (production, studios, service providers). Its director, Guy Daleiden, was on hand to meet animation professionals, representatives of the FMAIV (Fédération luxembourgeoise des Métiers de l'Animation et de l'Image Virtuelle) as well as 29 students and 3 teachers from the BTS (Advanced Technician's Certificate) in Cartooning from the Lycée des Arts et Métiers in Luxembourg.
During the traditional meetings speed datingStudents from the Lycée des Arts et Métiers were given the opportunity to showcase their talents to animation professionals, with a view to a possible work placement or recruitment.
On its stand, the Film Fund also organised co-production meetings with its partners in the SODEC - Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (Quebec), from Wallonie Bruxelles Images (Belgium) and INCAA (Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (Argentina).
As a reminder, 5 Luxembourg co-productions were included in the official selection:
- Feature films Funan by Denis Do (Bac Cinema) and The Breadwinner by Nora Twomey (Melusine Productions) have been selected for the official competition.
- The feature film The Swallows of Kabul by Peter Ramsey (Melusine Productions) has also been selected from among 8 international projects to take part in the WIP Feature (Work in Progress, a chance to experience the creative stages of a project in production).
- Alexandre Espigares' first feature film Croc-Blanc (Bidibul Productions) has also been selected by the organisers for an open-air screening on Saturday 16 June 2018 to close the festival.
- Finally, a ciné-concert devoted to music and animated film will focus on the first feature film by Doghouse Films Pachamama directed by Juan Antin in co-production with France and Canada.
