Luxembourg cinema is reaching new heights on the international stage: Un simple accident (It Was Just An Accident)directed by Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi, won the Palme d'Or at the 78th Cannes Film Festival this evening.
Co-produced by Christel Henon for Bidibul Productions (Luxembourg), alongside Les Films Pelléas, Pio & Co (France) and Jafar Panahi Productions (Iran), this feature film bears witness to the know-how, artistic rigour and commitment of Luxembourg producers to major international projects.
Made in a delicate production context, the film is a continuation of Panahi's powerful and committed work. With A simple accidentThis is a story that is both poignant and incisive, combining political satire and intimate drama, with a masterful staging and a great deal of human sensitivity.
In addition to this major distinction, the film was also awarded the Citizenship Prizeawarded for the seventh time this year. This independent prize is awarded to a work that embodies the values of solidarity, social justice, respect for fundamental rights and freedom of expression.

With A simple accidentSince 1989, 49 films co-produced with Luxembourg have been selected at Cannes, including three this year. Luxembourg cinema has now won 15 awards on the Croisette - a remarkable achievement for a country of its size, confirming its key role in the European co-production landscape.
