Luxembourg takes centre stage at Cartoon Movie in Bordeaux

Luxembourg will be in the spotlight from 3 to 5 March in Bordeaux as part of the 22^e edition of the Caartoon Moviean international co-production and pitching forum for European animated feature films, and a must-attend event for professionals in the moving image industry.

Cartoon Movie aims to create synergy between producers, investors, distributors and sales agents for animated films. As an annual meeting place, the show enables filmmakers to find financing for the production of their projects. The event, initiated with the support of the European Commission's Media programme, also serves to boost the European animation world.

For the 4^e Every year, the Cartoon Movie puts a European country's animated films in the spotlight. In 2020, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has been chosen. 

A Luxembourg delegation made up of representatives of the Film Fund (co-organiser of the event), 8 production companies and 5 studios (a_BAHN, Bac Cinema, Bidibul Productions, CGLux, Doghouse Films & Studio, Fabrique d'Images & The Picture Factory, Melusine Productions & Studio 352, Paul Thiltges Distributions, Zeilt productions & Studio and a post-production/sound company (Philophon) will be travelling to Bordeaux to promote the country's works.

In addition, 6 students from the BTS Dessin d'animation programme at the Lycée des Arts et Métiers and 4 students from the Bachelor Animation programme at the Université de Luxembourg will be on hand to discover the Cartoon Movie and take part in the coaching programme.

Of the 66 films selected, 2 Luxembourg co-productions will be among the projects pitched on 4 March:

• Molesworth (project in development) co-produced by Melusine Productions
• Ooops! The Adventure continues ... (project in production) co-produced by Fabrique d'Images.

Finally, among the finalists for the Cartoon Tributes 2020, an award recognising the work of directors, producers and distributors, in the "European Producer of the Year" category for the feature film Fritzi - A Miraculous Revolutionary Tale, a co-production between 4 countries (Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, Czech Republic).

Thanks to Cartoon Movie, 333 films have been financed to date, with a total budget of 2.2 billion euros. A large number of Luxembourg co-productions have been pitched and have found funding.
