Luxembourg wins 3 prizes at the 4th Trophées Francophones du Cinéma ceremony in Beirut
FILM FUND Luxembourg, D'FILMAKADEMIE, SAMSA FILM, JULIETTE FILM and PAUL THILTGES DISTRIBUTIONS are pleased to announce that:
- Christophe Wagner wins the French-speaking director's trophy for his film ". Eng Nei Zäit "(Tomorrow, after the war) produced by Samsa Film.
Luxembourg co-production The brand new testament "directed by Jaco van Dormael (Juliette Films) wins two prizes:
- Francophone trophy for Best Actor for Benoît Poelvoorde
- Francophone Screenplay Trophy for Jaco Van Dormael and Thomas Gunzig.
In the same way as the prizes awarded to national films in each country, the Trophées Francophones du Cinéma awards nine prizes each year to works and artists from French-speaking countries.
Voting takes place in two rounds: a first round to identify the nominees in several categories, and a second round to determine the winners in the various categories. The winners are announced at the annual awards ceremony.
For Luxembourg, the films eligible for the Trophées Francophones are submitted by the Luxembourg Film Academy (d'Filmakademie).
Luxembourg was well represented in the first round of nominations:
- " La Supplication " directed by Pol Cruchten and produced by Red Lion, nominated for the Francophone Trophy for feature-length documentaries.
- " Eng Nei Zäit "(Tomorrow, after the war) produced by Samsa Film, nominated in the Francophone trophy for best performance by an actor (Luc Schiltz) and for the Francophone Achievement Award (Christophe Wagner).
- " Quenottes " directed by Pascal Thiebaux and Gil Pinheiro and co-produced by Zeilt Productions, nominated for the Francophone Short Film Trophy.
- " " directed by Jaco Van Dormael and co-produced by Juliette Films, with 4 nominations: Francophone trophy for best performance by an actor, Francophone trophy for Best Supporting Actress, Francophone Screenplay Trophy and Francophone Feature Film Trophy.
The Trophées Francophone du Cinéma awards ceremony, presided over by the Franco-Greek film-maker Costa-Gavras, took place this year in Beirut in the presence of Abderrahmane Sissako, President of ATFCiné, and will be broadcast this Monday 5 December at 9pm on TV5 Monde.

"Eng nei Zäit" (Tomorrow, after the war) is Christophe Wagner's second feature film. Released in cinemas in October 2015, the film remained in theatres for fifteen weeks and was the subject of exceptional reprogramming following its triple award at the "Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis" (Luxembourg Film Prize) last March: Best Luxembourg Film, Best Artistic Contribution Award for actor Luc Schiltz and Best Technical Contribution Award for cinematographer Jako Raybaut.
Produced by Claude Waringo for Samsa Film in co-production with the Belgian company Artémis Productions, the film received support from the Film Fund Luxembourg as well as assistance from the Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, the participation of Wallonia and the Brussels Capital Region and support from the Belgian Federal Government's Tax Shelter.
The historical thriller has also crossed the borders of the Grand Duchy, as it has been selected and presented at various international festivals. These include Namur Francophone Film Festival (FIFF) where the film had its world premiere in October 2015, the Max Ophüls Preis which included the film in its Official Competition, as well as the Augenblick Festival in Alsace, giving it a high profile within the Greater Region.
Eng nei Zäit" has also been available for several months on the VoD.LU video-on-demand platform (www.vod.lu), where it has been a resounding success, topping the sales and rental charts. The film is also available on PostTV's VOD catalogue.
This festive season, the film will also be available on the Luxembourg iTunes shop and on DVD.
"The All-New Testament", directed by Jaco Van Dormael and co-produced by David Grumbach (Juliette Films), has been a huge international success, including a selection at the International Film Festival in Paris. Cannes Festivala nomination at the Golden Globes and César and no less than 4 Magritte. In Luxembourg, the film won the prize for best co-production at the "Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis". The film has been sold in over sixty countries.
