Luxembourg has lost an emblematic figure in its culture with the death of Marie-Paule von Roesgen on Wednesday 20 November at the age of 93.

Born on 5 November 1931 in Luxembourg City, Marie-Paule von Roesgen has left her mark on both Luxembourg cinema and theatre thanks to her talent, sensitivity and authenticity. From the 1970s onwards, she established herself as an artist of the first rank, touching audiences with her sincere and profound interpretations.

In the cinema, she has made her mark with roles in such landmark works as Déi Zwéi vum Bierg (1985) and Hochzäitsnuecht (1992) by Pol Cruchten, which won the Max Ophüls Preis and was screened at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2017, she shone again in the film Rusty Boys of Andy Bausch, testifying to his commitment and his undiminished passion for his art.
Marie-Paule von Roesgen has also made a name for herself on Luxembourg's theatre stages, taking part in major productions and enriching the cultural landscape through her involvement in varied and demanding works.

She leaves behind a precious testimony to her career through her roles in film and theatre, works that will continue to inspire and touch audiences.
