The Fonds national de soutien à la production audiovisuelle takes stock of 2011
Octavie Modert, Minister for Culture, has presented the results for 2011 of the National Support Fund for Audiovisual Production. 29 projects received selective financial aid totalling €6,064,242: 13 projects received writing or development aid (i.e. €579,242) and 16 projects received production aid (i.e. €5,485,000). 24 works benefited from the advantages of the audiovisual investment certificate scheme for a net amount of €24,758,146. The Fund also granted various subsidies to the sector for an amount of €49,983 as well as promotion aid totalling €80,088.
The Minister expressed her delight at the numerous selections and awards won by Luxembourg films and co-productions at film festivals around the world. She also recalled the success of the second edition of the "Discovery Zone - Luxembourg City Film Festival", which was very well received by the public.
François Biltgen, Minister for Communications and the Media, also presented the broad outlines of the draft law on the National Audiovisual Production Support Fund. The main changes are the abolition of the C.I.A.V. system and its replacement by a system of direct subsidies managed by the Fund - which means that State support will be recast as a single selective financial aid - and the modification of the governance of the Fund: from now on, the administration will take decisions on the allocation of A.F.S. to be granted on the basis of detailed opinions from an advisory evaluation committee.
The Minister also presented the draft law approving the audiovisual co-production agreements between Luxembourg and Switzerland and between Luxembourg and Ireland. These two agreements will intensify synergies between producers in these three countries, encourage audiovisual and cinematographic co-productions between the countries concerned, promote exchanges in terms of promotion, distribution and training, and facilitate access to other exhibition and broadcasting markets.
