Oto's Planet: another international triumph for Luxembourg's immersive work, which won an award in Montreal
Already the winner of numerous awards around the world, the immersive work Oto's Planet has just added two new prestigious awards to its impressive list of honours. Last night in Montreal, at the Numix 2025 prizeIt won the prize for the best XR experience, as well as the Grand Prize, awarded to the production that particularly stands out for the originality of its script and direction, in all categories, confirming once again its place as one of the most outstanding immersive creations of recent years.
The Numix Awards, organized in Montreal by Xn Quebec - the association of digital experience producers in Quebec - are an international benchmark in the field of immersive digital creation. Created in 2010, each year the awards recognise the most innovative works in the virtual, augmented, mixed and interactive reality sectors.
Supported by the Film Fund Luxembourg, Oto's Planet is a mainly Luxembourg co-production, made in collaboration with Quebec and France. This 28-minute work, designed for virtual reality, plunges viewers into a sensory and poetic universe where Oto, a peaceful being living on a small planet, sees his daily life disrupted by the arrival of an explorer from elsewhere, Exo.
Directed by Gwenael François, produced by Luxembourg-based Skill Lab (Julien Becker) in partnership with Dpt. (Quebec) and Small Creative (France). Art direction, animation and motion capture were entrusted to the Luxembourg studio Zeilt Studio (Laurent Witz).
Since its creation, Oto's Planet was received at some of the biggest international festivals, winning the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival (Venice Immersive 2024), the Reflet d'Or at the Geneva International Film Festival (2024), the Grand Prize at the Beyond The Frame Festival in Tokyo (2024) and the Prize for the Best Virtual Reality Experience - AI, Immersive & Games (Webby Awards 2025). The work has also been selected for prestigious events such as Cannes Immersive (Focus Luxembourg), Annecy, SXSW, Thessaloniki and the Luxembourg City Film Festival, underlining the country's growing involvement in the production of immersive works with an international reach.
This latest success in Montreal marks the culmination of an exceptional artistic and technological trajectory, and confirms Luxembourg's ability to develop innovative and ambitious immersive projects in partnership with the best international expertise.
Since the launch of the international section of the Numix Awards, the Film Fund Luxembourg, a partner since 2022, has been supporting the visibility of Luxembourg immersive works internationally. In addition to Oto's Planet This year, two other Luxembourg creations have already won awards: Wild Cities (2022) and Sex, Desire and Data (2023), both co-produced by a_BAHN. This partnership aims to open up new avenues for the promotion and exploitation of these works abroad, while strengthening exchanges between immersive cinema professionals in Luxembourg and Quebec.
