Several Luxembourgish co-productions and talents showcased at the 79th Cannes Film Festival and its Marché du Film
Directors' Fortnight
This year, three co-productions supported by Film Fund Luxembourg are among the selection for the Directors' Fortnight.
DORA, the third feature film by South Korean director July Jung, is a co-production between Luxembourg (Les Films Fauves), France and South Korea.
Synopsis: Dora is a young girl suffering from an illness that affects her both physically and mentally. When she falls in love, a path to healing begins. The ruthless force of love and hate she will go through will, despite everything, reveal moments of luminous fascination.
Double Freedom de Lisandro Alonso, an Argentinian film director, is a co-production between Luxembourg (Les Films Fauves), Argentina, Colombia, and Germany.
Synopsis: Misael works alone with his axe, felling trees far from other people. His freedom will be challenged when he must take responsibility for his older sister, and the logic of his days in the woods will fade into a wilderness where human reason has no meaning.
Death has no master, directed by Venezuelan filmmaker Jorge Thielen Armand, co-produced by Luxembourg (Deal Productions), Venezuela and Canada.
Synopsis: Caro is a middle-aged Venezuelan woman whose life has been marked by violence. Eager to leave the past behind, she returns to Venezuela after a nineteen-year absence to sell her father's old cocoa plantation, a place steeped in her family's history.
Established in 1969 by the SRF (Society of Film Directors), the Directors' Fortnight is a parallel and independent selection of the Cannes Film Festival, dedicated to discovering the most audacious cinematic styles in contemporary cinema. It is recognised as one of the festival's most prestigious platforms for both emerging and established filmmakers who stand out for their unique artistic vision. These selections confirm Luxembourgish co-productions' strong presence at Cannes, the world's largest showcase for the 7th Art.
Cannes Première
A Luxembourgish co-production has been added to the Cannes Première selection:
Marie Madeleine, by Haitian director Gessica Généus, is a co-production between Luxembourg (Bidibul Productions), France, Belgium, Haiti and Canada.
Film Market
As part of the Marché du Film, the feature film DEAD DAD GIRL, the first film by Luxembourgish director Stephen Korytko, has been selected for the «PÖFF Goes to Cannes» Showcase.
Coproduced by Luxembourg (Samsa Film) and Belgium, this project, straddling dark comedy and coming-of-age, brings together several Luxembourgish performers, including Luc Schiltz, Sophie Mousel and Philippe Thelen. The film reveals several new young local talents, including Louise Balthazar, who has her first leading role in a feature film here, as well as Emily Amor, Maximilien Blom, Mick Daubenfeld, Lou Mergen, Zachary O’Neill, Giulia Pagliarini, Emilie Pierra, Davide Sorvillo and Alicem Whitehead in smaller roles.
Among other Luxembourgish talents who participated in the film are Anselm Havu (DOP), Audrey Dhyvert (Production Designer), Alain Goniva (Sound), Loïc Collignon (Mixer).
Synopsis: Don't panic, the girl isn't dead. She's doing very well, thank you. The father, on the other hand... dead. Like, really dead. Like, stuffed in a freezer dead. Memphis (17) had to deal with it after his heart attack – not really out of grief, but to avoid losing his spot with the cool kids at school. Because, deep down, staying popular is a matter of survival.
Immersive Market
Le Marché Immersif is the Marché du Film's new B2B initiative, dedicated to fostering collaboration and opening new distribution opportunities in the immersive sector.
Following on from the Cannes Film Festival's Immersive Competition, the Immersive Market brings together international immersive creators, producers and curators from world-renowned museums and entertainment venues. Its bespoke programme – including pitch sessions, workshops, conferences and networking events – is designed to foster partnerships, highlight innovative works and open up new perspectives for immersive art.
Production company a_BAHN was invited to the Immersive Market with its development slate, including the project LES GENS DE LA PLUIE by Luxembourgish directors Nicolas Blies and Stéphane Hueber-Blies.
Several other Luxembourgish films have slipped into this 2026 edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
The poster for the Immersive Competition 2026 and the festival's official communication highlight THIS IS MY HEART, the immersive creation by Nicolas Blies and Stéphane Hueber-Blies, produced by Luxembourg (a_BAHN) and presented as part of the Luxembourg Focus at Cannes Immersive last year.
Luxembourgish actress Vicky Krieps is returning to the Croisette with a role in Andy Garcia's film «Diamond,» selected out of competition.
Samsa Film is a Luxembourgish co-producer of «Full Phil,» the next feature film from the prolific French filmmaker Quentin Dupieux, which will celebrate its world premiere in Midnight Screenings.
The poster and graphic design for the Directors' Fortnight were created by the Luxembourgish graphic designer and typographer Michel Welfringer.
