At the invitation of the Shanghai International Film Festival, Guy Daleiden and Françoise Lentz from the Fonds national de soutien à la production audiovisuelle and Paul
Thiltges, President of the Union luxembourgeoise de la production audiovisuelle (ULPA), travelled to China from 10 to 15 June 2016.
The delegation took part in the opening of a special "Luxembourg" focus which took place on the fringes of the festival, with the screening of 6 Luxembourg films: "Le tout nouveau testament" (by Jaco van Dormael - Juliette Films), "Eng nei Zäit" (by Christophe Wagner - Samsa Film), "Foreign Affairs" (by Pasha Rafiy - Les Films Fauves), "The road uphill" (by Jean-Louis Schuller - Paul Thiltges Distributions), "Baby(a)lone" (by Donato Rotunno - Iris Productions) and "Voices from Chernobyl" (by Pol Cruchten - Red Lion). This initiative was made possible thanks to the kind support of the Luxembourg Ambassador in Beijing, Paul Steinmetz, the Consul General of Luxembourg in Shanghai, Luc Decker, and the chargé de mission, Max Dörner.
Two Luxembourg-German co-productions by Iris Productions, "The dark side of the moon" (by Stephan Rick) and "Colonia" (by Florian Gallenberger), are also included in the "Germany" focus. Throughout their trip, the delegation had the opportunity to meet the heads of the China Film Foundationtraining centre, the Shanghai Theatre Academythe China Film Culture Institute, China Film Promotion International and
online platform Youku to discuss opportunities and synergies for the promotion, distribution and training of Luxembourg's audiovisual production sector.
"This is the second time, after Beijing in 2013, that we have organised a Luxembourg focus in China, and I am always amazed at the interest and receptiveness of the Chinese public to European works. I am convinced that, in addition to economic and financial relations, there is real potential for artistic, cultural and creative collaboration between Luxembourg and China", Guy Daleiden points out.
Paul Thiltges added: "This expedition allows me to see how the distribution of Luxembourg and European films in China is developing. Quotas are
is about to fall, and European arthouse films will also have access to the cinema and VOD markets".
A tour of the Shanghai Animation Film Studio and the impressive Shanghai Film Museum rounded off this highly instructive trip.
