As part of the state visit by their Majesties the King and Queen of Belgium, which devoted part of its programme to the audiovisual sector and more specifically to Belgian-Luxembourg co-productions, a specific agreement was signed for the production of Belgian television series.
This partnership agreement between the Fonds FWB-RTBF pour les séries belges (formed by the French-speaking community of Belgium and Radio-Télévision belge de la Communauté française) and the Film Fund provides for the establishment and perpetuation of a diversified supply of French-speaking Belgian fiction television series by supporting the development and production of these series. The document was signed at Neumunster Abbey by the Minister-President of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Pierre-Yves Jeholet, and the Director of the Film Fund Luxembourg, Guy Daleiden, in the presence of Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister and Minister for Communications and the Media, 3 Belgian ministers (Didier Reynders, Oliver Paasch and Jan Jambon) and Jeanne Brunfaut, Deputy Director General of the Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
Preview screening of an episode from season 2 of Unité 42the first series produced in collaboration between the 3 partners, was also part of the audiovisual programme.
H.M. Queen Mathilde, accompanied by Xavier Bettel, took part in an audiovisual Meet & Greet with, among others, the heads of audiovisual production support funds and representatives of regional audiovisual economic funds. The Prime Minister and the Queen also had the opportunity to speak with Belgian sculptor Stéphane Halleux, creator of the character of Mr Hublot, the hero of the animated short that won an Oscar in 2014. It was also an opportunity for the Fabrique d'Images studio to demonstrate the making of an animated film. The studio and Stéphane Halleux are currently developing a project inspired by the world of the sculptor.
