Strong presence of the Luxembourg audiovisual sector at the Galway Festival
Luxembourg shines at this year's Galway International Film Festival (Galway Film Fleadh), Ireland's leading film festival, with no fewer than four co-productions. Presented at the opening of the 2025 edition and in the official competition, RE-CREATIONco-produced with Luxembourg-based Joli Rideau Media (Fabrizio Maltese), is the latest film from five-time Oscar-nominated Irish director Jim Sheridan, co-directed with David Merriman, and stars Vicky Krieps in the title role alongside Aidan Gillen, Colm Meaney and Sheridan himself. The Irish premiere of the film took place in Galway in the presence of Vicky Krieps and Luxembourg actors Maja Juric and Elena Spautz.
A second co-production between Luxembourg and Ireland, THE WOLF, THE FOX AND THE LEOPARDby Deal Productions (Alexandra Hoesdorff and Désirée Nosbusch), with Luxembourg actress Marie Jung in the role of Wyona, is also in the official competition. These selections confirm the potential for artistic collaboration between Luxembourg and Ireland, a leading international partner for the Grand Duchy in terms of film production.
As well as these two feature-length fiction films, Luxembourg is also making a name for itself in the festival's immersive section. Festival-goers can discover OTO'S PLANETthe multi-award-winning virtual reality space story by filmmaker Gwenaël François, produced by Luxembourg-based Skill Lab (Julien Becker), and THE DOLLHOUSE, an immersive work directed by Charlotte Bruneau and Dominic Desjardins, co-produced by Wild Fang Films (Hélène Walland/Christian Neuman) and given its world premiere at the recent Cannes Film Festival. The two productions are also taking part in an international round table on immersive creation.
On 8 July, the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Ireland and the Film Fund Luxembourg organised a reception in honour of the works selected and the Luxembourg talent who contributed to them. The evening was held in conjunction with the festival, in the presence of ambassador Florence Ensch, Guy Daleiden, director of the Fund, and numerous audiovisual professionals.
