At the press conference for the 13e edition of the Luxembourg City Film FestivalGuy Daleiden, Director of the Film Fund Luxembourg, has unveiled the ambitions of the 2023 Virtual Reality Pavilion, which will take place from 1 to 30 September.er to 19 March in the vaulted cellars of neimënster.

For the 6e year in a row, the Film Fund Luxembourg, in partnership with the Montreal IHP Centrespecialising in the distribution of immersive content, is organising - following the success of previous editions - its annual Virtual Reality Pavilion dedicated to prestigious, award-winning works of XR cinema and artworks using immersive technologies such as augmented reality and binaural sound. This edition will be made possible thanks to the support of long-standing partners including Digital Luxembourg.

For the duration of LuxFilmFest and beyond, audiences at neimënster will be able to discover 11 original, never-before-seen works in a high-quality scenographic context that will immerse them in the heart of the action. The installations will be open to the public and every measure will be taken to ensure maximum health and safety. School visits will also be organised at the VR Pavilion, supported by an educational pack on 2 works from the 2023 selection.

A specially equipped VR cinema will also be showing a selection of 360° films, allowing visitors to be transported into the world of this incredible technology.

As in previous years, the Pavillon's programme will showcase works produced in conjunction with Luxembourg, including Missing Pictures by Clément Deneux (a Wild Fang Films co-production) and A Colônia Luxembourguesa by Dominique Santana (a Samsa Film co-production).

For the 3rd year running, LuxFilmFest has been given a new look.e A jury of international experts, including Bettina Steinbrügge, Katayoun Dibamehr and Dan Tucker, will be in charge of a competition devoted exclusively to immersive works, and will award a prize of €4,000 to one of the 10 VR works in the running (including 1 from Luxembourg).

The VR Pavilion will also be the occasion for the Fund to organise its 5the edition of VR Day, a professional day during which national and international experts will discuss current trends and challenges in the virtual, mixed and augmented reality market.

For the first time, the Virtual Reality Pavilion will be hosting a Game Jaman intensive 48-hour competition in which students specialising in programming, game design and development create their own video game.

The Film Fund and Digital Luxembourg will also be organising a targeted synergy event aimed at exploring new avenues of collaboration between professionals and companies in their respective sectors.

From 20 March to 30 June, the "VR to GO" formula will be making a comeback. Visitors to neimënster will once again be able to hire a virtual reality headset for 2 or 3 days, allowing them to view all the VR Cinema works on show at the Pavilion in the comfort of their own homes. The VR headsets will be available at an affordable rental rate and will follow a strict sanitary protocol of disinfection with ultraviolet rays after each use.
