The audiovisual production sector is in mourning - Pol Cruchten has passed away!
The entire team at the Fonds national de soutien à la production audiovisuelle is deeply saddened by the news of the death of one of Luxembourg's greatest film-makers. Pol Cruchten was a keen film buff, a connoisseur of cinema from all over the world, an assiduous reader and a fan of world music: our culture has lost a man of many talents.
Pol was the first Luxembourger to be selected for a feature film at the Cannes Festival in 1992, with his first film "Hochzäitsnuecht", and he can look back on a brilliant career in the world of the 7th art. He was widely acclaimed both nationally and internationally. With his moving documentary "La supplication", a unique work adapted from the novel by Svetlana Alexievitch, winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize for Literature, he succeeded in raising awareness among audiences around the world.
Hard-working and passionate, he was currently working on several productions and preparing his own films. He was collaborating with the Mauritanian filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako on the "Face(s) of Africa" project, a documentary that was particularly close to his heart.
Pol was a writer, director and producer. He was a reliable partner, appreciated not only for his dedication to young Luxembourg talent, but also for his honesty, professionalism and open-mindedness. Exchanges with Pol were always very enriching and constructive.
We are losing not only a great professional and an exceptional man, but also a friend with a big heart who understood the importance of working for the cinema. His works make us proud and will remain forever engraved in our minds and our cultural heritage.
Pol, we'll never forget you.
Our thoughts are with Jeanne, Vincent and all his family.
