The 12th Magritte of Belgian cinema was awarded this Saturday evening at the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles for the feature film REBEL by directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, co-produced in Luxembourg by the company Calach Films (Jesus Gonzalez), the Magritte for Best Original Score.

The film is a co-production between Belgium, France and Luxembourg, and stars Luxembourg actors Tommy Schlesser and Nassim Rachi. The technical team includes Uli Simon (costume supervisor), Véronique Dubray (make-up supervisor), Lucia Valverde (script supervisor), Jean-François Roqueplo and Pascal Charlier (chief grips), Theo Theodorides (1st assistant B camera), Nicolas Leroy and Angelo Dos Santos (sound editors) and Loïc Collignon (mixer).

The film, which has had a successful international run, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022. The film was released in Luxembourg in autumn 2022.

For this 2023 edition of the Belgian French-language film awards, Luxembourg was represented by 6 nominations with Rebel (Calach Films - four nominations), Where is Anne Frank (Samsa Film - one nomination) and L'ennemi (BAC Cinéma - one nomination).

Synopsis: Kamal decides to travel to Syria to help the victims of the war. But when he arrives, he is forced to join an armed group and finds himself stranded in Raqqa. His younger brother Nassim, who dreams of joining him, becomes easy prey for jihad recruiters. Leïla, their mother, tries to protect her youngest son.
