It was at this General Meeting that the ARTE channel has approved the establishment of a partnership with the Film Fund Luxembourg. True to its mission of "promoting understanding and bringing the peoples of Europe closer together", ARTE is implementing an ambitious strategy of co-producing and broadcasting quality programmes in Europe.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday 12 December 2018 at the channel's headquarters in Strasbourg between representatives of ARTE G.E.I.E. and Film Fund director Guy Daleiden.

The association agreement strengthens ARTE's European presence by including Luxembourg for the first time in an advisory capacity on ARTE's governing bodies, thus enabling all German- and French-speaking countries on the European continent to be represented among the channel's partners.

Within this framework, ARTE and the Film Fund Luxembourg undertake to invest together in developments and co-productions intended for broadcast on the ARTE channel and/or made available on its digital offerings. They also undertake to encourage the development of audiovisual and cinematographic projects - in particular fiction series and innovative projects - between the Film Fund Luxembourg on the one hand and ARTE France and ARTE Deutschland on the other.

The Film Fund Luxembourg has supported a number of ARTE co-productions in the past, including the series Bad Banks or the documentary series 1918-1939: the shattered dreams of the inter-war years, both co-produced by Iris Productions.
