The Minister for Culture, Eric Thill, was in Cannes from 18 to 19 May to meet professionals from the audiovisual production sector and to take part in the traditional Luxembourg Day.

The Minister began his visit at the Marché du Film*, where he met the heads of the pavilions with which Luxembourg has close links, in particular those of Switzerland (the country of honour at 77e Festival de Cannes), Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland, Portugal and Quebec. He also visited the Ukraine stand, where he reiterated Luxembourg's support for Ukrainian cinema through the European Solidarity Fund for Ukrainian films of which the Film Fund Luxembourg is a member. Mr Thill was then welcomed to the Luxembourg pavilion by some sixty professionals attending the market and representatives of the press.

The Minister expressed his strong support for all Luxembourg film professionals, underlining the importance of their work for culture, the economy and the country's image. He showed that he was listening to the sector and reaffirmed his desire to continue to develop it. He also highlighted initiatives to develop local talent and promote diversity in film production, demonstrating a clear commitment to innovation and growth in Luxembourg's film industry.

He praised this year's fine selection at Cannes, with a feature film in the official competition, two animated films in the out-of-competition selection and 2 XR works, one of which is in competition. "These films reflect Luxembourg's ongoing commitment to international film production and co-production, showcasing diverse talent and fruitful collaborations".

The Minister announced that a conference on the audiovisual sector would be held on 20 September, with the aim of drawing up a strategy and vision for the development of the sector over the coming years.

The minister also visited the space dedicated to creative industries, where he was welcomed by Mathieu Pradat, the creator of XR The Roaming, and Hélène Walland, the Luxembourg producer. Eric Thill experienced the work co-produced in Luxembourg, which is in competition at Cannes in the immersive works selection.

On Sunday, the Minister attended a meeting between Belgian and Luxembourg producers at the Luxembourg pavilion, with the aim of strengthening ties and opening up new co-production opportunities.

Tina Trapp, representative of EAVE, the continuing education, networking and project development programme for audiovisual producers, presented the various workshops organised by EAVE to the Minister.

Katarzyna Ozga of Iris Productions has also been selected to take part in the 25th edition of the Producers on the Move programme. This tailor-made programme aims to put the spotlight on young producers, encourage international co-productions, step up exchanges of experience and help create new professional networks.

In collaboration with the LARS (directors and scriptwriters) and ACTORS.lu (actors and actresses) associations, the Film Fund awarded grants to actresses Clara Hertz, Sarah Boleslava, Valérie Bodson and Anne Brionne, as well as directors Lukas Grevis, Simon Farmakas, Eric Lamhène and Julien Becker, to enable them to take part in the film market and meet the professionals present.
