"The Red Suitcase" by Luxembourg director Cyrus Neshvad in the running for the Oscars!
The Oscar Academy has lifted the veil on the last 5 films in the running to win the precious golden statuette: The red suitcase (The red suitcase)directed and produced by Cyrus Neshvad (Cynefilms) will compete for the best fiction short film (Best Live Action Short Film).
The entire film was shot at Findel airport over 6 days in 2021 and produced in Luxembourg by Cynefilms.
Cyrus Neshvad was overjoyed to hear of his nomination: "My thoughts are with the Iranian women who are currently fighting for their rights and freedom. I hope that my short film can help raise awareness of their cause throughout the world".
The best masterpieces of 7e art will be announced in Hollywood on 12 March at the 95e Oscar ceremony.
The short film The red suitcase will be screened at the next Luxembourg City Film Festival in March 2023.
In addition to The red suitcaseCyrus Neshvad has directed 5 short films, including Wires and Portraitist which have won numerous international awards, as well as the Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis for best fiction short film in 2018 (Fils) and 2021 (Portraitiste). He is currently preparing his first feature film The refuge soon to be filmed.
Logline : Luxembourg airport. Late evening. A 16-year-old veiled Iranian girl is afraid to pick up her red suitcase from the automatic conveyor belt. She keeps putting off going through the arrival gate and seems increasingly terrified.
