The Secretary of State for Culture visits Berlin as part of the 67th Berlinale

Guy Arendt, Secretary of State for Culture, travelled to Berlin to meet Luxembourg film professionals as part of the 67e Luxembourg was particularly well represented at the Berlin International Film Festival, with 3 Luxembourg co-productions in the official programme and 7 co-productions at the EFM European Film Market.
The Secretary of State for Culture took advantage of his presence in Berlin to visit a number of cultural highlights, including the " Literarisches Colloquium or the Künstlerhaus Bethanien ". He praised "the important work of literary mediation carried out by the many Luxembourg artists and authors hosted in the creative residencies of these internationally renowned institutions". He also visited the " Saarländischen Galerie - europäisches Kulturforum ".
After attending the screening of the film "Barrage", directed by the young Luxembourger Laura Schroeder and co-produced by Red Lion, Guy Arendt took part in the traditional reception organised jointly by Georges Santer, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Berlin and Guy Daleiden, Director of the Lëtzebuerger Filmfong, bringing together professionals and partners from the audiovisual production sector as well as representatives from the world of culture.
Guy Arendt was delighted with Luxembourg's strong presence at Berlin this year, particularly in terms of the selection: "3 Luxembourg co-productions in the official programme, which shows that the artistic quality of our Luxembourg filmmakers is widely recognised at international level".
Pm. Films selected at the Berlinale 2017 and the European Film Market:
- " Dam " by Laura Schroeder (co-produced by Paul Cruchten/Red Lion), receiving its world premiere in the 'FORUM'. This is the Luxembourger's 2nd feature film (after " Schatzritter "(2012), which she co-wrote with French novelist Marie Nimier. Shot for the most part near Lake Haute-Sûre, this women's drama features Lolita Chammah, the young Thémis Pauwels and Isabelle Huppert. Luxembourg actors Charles Müller, Marja-Leena Juncker and Luc Schiltz complete the cast.
- " Es war einmal in Deutschland... " by Sam Garbarski (co-produced by Jani Thiltges/Samsa Film), selected in the prestigious 'Berlinale Special Gala'. It's the 5the feature film by Sam Garbarski, who has produced all his films in collaboration with Samsa Film and with the support of the Fund ("Le Tango des Rashevski", "Irina Palm", "Quartier Lointain" and "Vijay and I"). This post-Holocaust drama stars Moritz Bleibtreu, Antje Traue and Luxembourgers Jeanne Werner, Christian Kmiotek, André Jung and Fabienne Hollwege.
- " Richard the Stork "a 3D animated feature film directed by Toby Genkel and Reza Memari (co-produced by Stéphan Roelants/Melusine Productions/Studio 352), screened in competition in the 'Generation Kplus'. Toby Genkel and Luxembourg's Sean McCormack had already achieved the 1er Two by Two - Ooops the ark has gone". Melusine Productions has co-produced a number of high-quality animated films, including the César-winning "Ernest et Célestine", "Le chant de la mer" and "Extraordinary Tales".
Also in the spotlight is the young Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps, who is playing a role in Raoul Peck's film "The Young Karl Marx" on the '...Berlinale Special Gala'.
