Three Luxembourg co-productions in the official selection of the Locarno Film Festival
La 78e edition of the Locarno Film FestivalTaking place from 6 to 16 August, this year's festival will feature three Luxembourg co-productions.
The feature film Dracula, by Romanian auteur filmmaker Radu Jude, several of whose works have already been supported by the Film Fund Luxembourg, will be in the official international competition for the Golden Leopard. This fiction co-production brings together Luxembourg (Samsa Film - Jani Thitges) and Paul Thiltges Distributions - Paul Thiltges, Adrien Chef), Romania and Austria, demonstrating a fine example of international collaboration. Sound effects and mixing were entrusted to Philophon Studios (Philippe Kohn, Ken Nnganyadi, Céline Bernard, Michelle Couttolenc, Jaime Baksht).
The latest film by Iranian director Jafar Panahi, A simple accident, will celebrate its Swiss premiere in the festival's iconic 'Piazza Grande' section, which features the most eagerly-awaited films of the year. The film, co-produced by Bidibul Productions (Christel Henon) with France and Iran, won the Palme d'or at the last Cannes Film Festival and will be eligible for the UBS Audience Award.
The "Fuori Concorso" section features films, regardless of genre, by singular directors who are making a profound impact on the contemporary artistic landscape, including the feature-length fiction film Exile by Tunisian director Mehdi Hmili, a co-production between Luxembourg (Tarantula Luxembourg - Donato Rotunno), Tunisia and France. Visual effects and delivery were handled by Espera Productions (Raoul Nadalet), while sound mixing was done by Roll Studio (Mike Butcher).
The film is in the running for the Green Leopard, a distinction introduced in 2022 to reward ambitious works exploring profound and complex ecological issues.
These three selections at one of the most prestigious international festivals, made possible by the Film Fund Luxembourg's selective financial support CINEWORLD, illustrate the quality and boldness of Luxembourg co-productions on the international festival circuit.
