Xavier Bettel visits Cannes for the 69th International Film Festival
12/05/2016 - 21/05/2016
The Prime Minister, Minister for Culture and Minister for Communications and the Media, Xavier Bettel, visited the Cannes International Film Market from 12 to 14 May 2016 as part of the 69e Festival.
The Fund is represented there for the 14e Once again with a pavilion in the International Village, hosting 19 entities under this umbrella.
Xavier Bettel took part in the presentation of Luxembourg's virtual reality projects: "Fan Club" directed by Vincent Ravalec and produced by a_BAHN and "Next" directed by Olivier Pesch and produced by Samsa Film, which took place in the NEXT pavilion.
The visit to the film market enabled the Prime Minister to familiarise himself with the environment of the world's largest audiovisual production market. He then lingered in the Luxembourg pavilion to meet all the industry professionals present at Cannes. He took the opportunity to draw up a very positive first post-Assizes assessment: strengthened collaboration with RTL Group, steps taken with ARTE, better coordination of public financial support in the audiovisual sector, renewal of the co-production treaty with Canada, strengthening of relations between Luxembourg and new or established co-production partners such as Denmark and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Xavier Bettel was delighted with the excellent collaboration between the sector's associations: ULPA, LARS, ALTA, Actors.lu, the Fédération des métiers de l'animation et de l'image virtuelle, and Filmakademie.
The Prime Minister once again emphasised the important role that culture plays in our society, and said he was proud of our creative people. "I think we need to invest in creativity, education and living together. Culture is a means of preventing the negative forces that risk undermining the cohesion of our living together".
