Luxembourg wins award at Annecy for immersive work A Long Goodbye

A Long Goodbye, an immersive virtual reality work by Kate Voet and Victor Maes, co-produced by Tarantula Luxembourg (Donato Rotunno) with Belgium and the Netherlands, and with 2D/3D animation by Luxembourg studio Velvet Flare, has won the Crystal of the best immersive work at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026. This distinction constitutes the main prize of the immersive competition.

Following obtaining the Venice Immersive Achievement Prize in 2025, This new recognition within the framework of a major festival attests to the know-how and the growing international visibility of Luxembourgish immersive works.

«This new distinction reflects the quality and ambition of the immersive works supported by the Film Fund Luxembourg, as well as the relevance of the investments made in favour of new narrative forms and their international reach,» highlights Guy Daleiden, Director of the Film Fund Luxembourg.

The work had also been presented last March in Luxembourg, as part of the Immersive Pavilion from Luxembourg City Film Festival.

In addition to the award won at the festival, Luxembourg strengthened its presence at the International Animation Film Market (MIFA), the world's largest market in the sector, thanks to a national pavilion. Coordinated by Film Fund Luxembourg, animation and immersive companies, studios, and professionals gathered there to exchange ideas and forge international partnerships, notably during a pitch organised by ALPA/XR and Film Fund, showcasing new animated creations from the Grand Duchy.

Luxembourgish students on the BTS Animation Drawing course at the Lycée des Arts et Métiers, as well as the Bachelor in Animation at the University of Luxembourg, also benefited from increased visibility thanks to a dedicated stand and recruitment meetings with the country's studios.
