WHITE FANG by Luxembourg director Alexandre Espigares premieres at Sundance
20/01/2018 - 21/01/2018
Luxembourg director and 2014 Academy Award winner (Mr Hublot) Alexandre Espigares received a warm welcome at the world premiere of his first feature White Fang on Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival. The animated film is inspired by Jack London’s famous novel of the same name and is screening in competition in the Sundance Kids section. The film was conceived entirely in 3D and deftly blends motion capture and key frame technology.
White Fang is a Luxembourg (Bidibul Productions) – France (Superprod) – US (Big Beach) co-production, with the Luxembourg participation in the financing amounting to 40.4% of the feature’s total budget. Film Fund Luxembourg supported the film at development and production stage. SC Films is handling international sales apart from the North American (UTA Independent Film Group) and French-speaking territories (France: Wild Bunch, Luxembourg: Tarantula Distribution).
Alexandre Espigares, luxembourgish director of White Fang: “The film was selected for Sundance, one of the most prestigious international independent film festivals, based on a working copy while it was still in post-production. That selection was, in itself, an incredible recognition of the work and effort of the team of artists who have spent the past three years working on the film. To a certain extent, a world premiere at Sundance means that White Fang has what it takes to play in the big league, and it gives recognition and invaluable international exposure to the film. Needless to say, I could not wait to see it on a big screen for the first time, and with a real audience!”
Guy Daleiden, CEO of Film Fund Luxembourg: “This animated masterpiece confirms Alexandre Espigares’ exceptional talent and provides yet another well-deserved opportunity for Luxembourg’s animation industry to shine and take centre stage at a major international festival. I am extremely proud of the work of our animation professionals who prove, once again, that Luxembourg cinema is synonymous with excellence and creativity.”
A special live score screening of White Fang will take place at the Luxembourg Philharmonie on the 9 March 2018, featuring orchestral accompaniment by the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Grammy Award winner Gast Waltzing. Release date for Luxembourg: 28 March 2018.
